PLOT
Director George A. Romero returns to the subject matter that made him famous with this postmodern take on the zombie genre. DIARY OF THE DEAD begins in innocuous fashion as a group of film students head out into the woods to make a low-budget horror film. This film-within-a-film is directed by Jason Creed (Joshua Close), who draws on a group of friends, and his college professor, to get the job done. But the filming comes to an abrupt halt when news comes in that the dead are springing back to life, devouring people, and taking over the world.Film obsessive Creed doesn't put his camera down for long, and he's soon heading out on the road with his friends in a quest to document the real-life carnage as it unfolds.[link]
IMDB
****
Just finished watching this and I must say that Romero does not disappoint! A zombie movie which is at least as good as the rest of "The Dead" series, but cleverly constructed in a very modern set with all sorts of technologies and references (e.g. youtube, myspace). I'm glad that Romero still makes this shit in our day and age even though his age seems so far away. This is a definitive must see.

From the director of the original GODZILLA comes FRANKENSTEIN VS BARAGON (or as it's also known in cult-movie circles, FRANKENSTEIN CONQUERS THE WORLD). In 1945, a human heart in a Japanese lab is exposed to the intense radiation from the atomic bomb, causing the heart to grow into a full body. The result is a wild child, complete with the iconic flat-top head that earns him the name "Frankenstein." The boy grows to giant proportions, and he is invincible against attacks from the authorities. But when a giant reptile wreaks havoc, only Frankenstein can match him in a fight. This sci-fi film from 1965 blends Japanese monster movies with the tradition of Mary Shelley's classic character. [link]

PLOT
A pair of intrepid scientists set up a research facility in a region of the American desert where a super-intelligent breed of ant has been discovered. Monitoring the insects' progress, the two speculate about the possibilities of an attack on human civilization by the aggressive, brain-heavy creatures -- and just how we might stop such an onslaught. Who would have thought that solar flares can give ants super mutagenic powers? Saul Bass apparently, who created this brilliant yet unimaginably underrated Sci Fi gem of the 70s. It's got a dreary immersive atmosphere, documentary-like photography and an excellent old school synth soundtrack.
Stay tuned for the next one, it's going to be the first in the (much needed) ZOMG category.

What is causing this sudden, total breakdown of human behavior? For Philadelphia high school science teacher Elliot Moore what matters most is finding a way to escape the mysterious and deadly phenomenon.

OH MY GOD! This movie sucks so bad that i'd rather watch The Giant Claw again. IMDB users gave it 5.4 out of 10 - generous if you ask me. Poor screenplay, poor acting, poor [insert random whatever here]
I got really annoyed by the short slasher movie like scenes from the house with the old lady (you'll figure it out when you get there). It reminded me of the same crappy technique that destroyed Danny Boyle's Sunshine.
Meh, as always, if the movie has end of the world material it is recommended, so go watch it :)

Going astray from the regular movies posted but keeping the same end of the world theme I highly recommend this one. I feel unqualified to comment anything, so just enjoy it :)

Flying beast out of prehistoric skies!
TITLE
The Giant Claw
DIRECTOR
Fred F. Sears
RELEASE DATE
June 1957
RUNTIME
75 min
GENRE
Fantasy / Horror / Sci-Fi
PLOT
When electronics engineer Mitch MacAfee spots a UFO as "big as a battleship," from his plane, the Air Force scrambles planes to investigate. However, nothing shows up on radar, and one of the jets is lost during the action. MacAfee is regarded as a dangerous crackpot until other incidents and disappearances convince the authorities that the threat is real. Some believe it is a French-Canadian folk legend come to life, but it turns out to be an extraterrestrial giant bird composed of anti-matter whose disregard for human life and architecture threatens the world.
IMDB
****
This movie is just wrong. So wrong on so many levels. If you manage to ignore the absurd facts that the movie shows you might find a way to enjoy it.
Apparently the giant monster bird comes from a god forsaken anti-matter galaxy and contrary to this also from a terrestrial ice age 17 million years ago. Seeing how the monster is made out of anti-matter it is invulnerable to most of Earth's weapons (including nuclear fire power) which is a major problem (duh).
Other strong points of the movie are:
- The monster is compared to a battleship using these exact words - as big as a battleship - many, many times
- The monster is fugly.
- The noise that the monster makes is so annoying and repetitive that after the first 30 minutes your ears will start bleeding.
